Vought Names Scholarship Winners

DALLAS, AUG. 19, 2008 – Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. has announced the recipients of eight higher education scholarship awards of $2,000 each.

“Providing scholarships is part of our drive to be a good corporate citizen,” said Vought Vice President of Human Resources Tom Stubbins.  “We feel it is important for the company to help support the education of students within the Vought family at each of our major locations.”

The recipients, selected from the 42 students who applied, are listed alphabetically by company location:

Dallas
Jefferson Street Site
Mary Beth Arnold –
Junior, Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas; Spanish major (graduate of Texas Christian Academy, Waxahachie, Texas); and daughter of employee Charles Edward Arnold.

Krysta Harrison – Junior, University of North Texas, Denton, Texas; kinesiology major (graduate of Billy Ryan High School, Denton, Texas); and daughter of employee Dwight Harrison.

Grand Prairie, Texas
Marshall Street Site
Dezorey Vahed
– Senior, University of Texas at Arlington; nursing major (graduate of Mansfield Summit High School, Mansfield, Texas; and daughter of employee Mo Vahed. She also was a 2007 scholarship winner.

Hawthorne, Calif.
Deepak Singh – Junior, Drexel University, Philadelphia; biological sciences major in an accelerated bachelor’s/master’s program (graduate of Gretchen Whitney High School, Cerritos, Calif.); and son of employee Harinder Singh. He is the brother of last year's scholarship winner, Monica Singh.

Milledgeville, Ga.
Melise Fathi – Senior, Wesleyan College, Macon, Ga.; psychology major (graduate of Jonesco Academy, Gray, Ga.). Wife of employee Rick Fathi. She also was a 2007 scholarship recipient.

Nashville
Lacey McDonough – Senior, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tenn.; majoring in family and consumer sciences with concentration in nutrition and foods (graduate of Dickson County High School, Dickson, Tenn.); and daughter of employee Steve McDonough.

North Charleston, S.C.
Smith Hopkins – Senior, Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tenn.; bible and philosophy major (2005 graduate of Rio Vista High School, Rio Vista, Texas); and son of employee Richard Hopkins. He also was a 2007 scholarship recipient.

Stuart, Fla.
Shannon Filipponi – Senior, University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla.; communication sciences and disorders major (2005 graduate of South Fork High School, Stuart, Fla.); and daughter of employee Michael Filipponi. She also was a 2007 scholarship winner.

The 2008 scholarship program is sponsored by Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. and the Nina and Gordon Williams Scholarship Fund.

Eligible students must be the spouse, son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or grandchild of an active Vought employee. The students, all of whom are entering either their junior or senior year of college, were selected based on their academic standing, involvement in school and community activities, as well as a personal essay and letters of reference.
